For April Fools’ 2004 I decided to do something a little different to tease our many loyal (perhaps?) viewers. I was up pretty late the night before and realized April Fool’s was only a matter of hours away, this time around having come up with nothing fun to play a prank with (hey, if thousands and thousands of people view your site, how can you not want to play pranks on them?) I tried to think of one of the most unrelated but barely believable alternatives to Kongming’s Archives, and Pikachu’s Archives then became the project. I started immediately, and would finish about an hour and a half later just before midnight GMT -7. This is not a real site, to view the main page please click here: Kongming’s Archives. ‘Pikachu’s Archives’ section added after prank was revealed.

Pikachu’s Archives is dedicated to the fine Pokémon card game, television series, and the countless branded products which have been released to monopolize on this fabulous innovation. More specifically, however, Pikachu’s Archives is dedicated to the furry lightning-rodent by the name of Pikachu. At this site you will be able to find related material such as links, media (wallpaper, avatars, desktop pictures, and more), information on all the movies, and even biographies for each and every Pokémon (it will take some time to get all the biographies up, but we’ve already got several authors lined up). Look forward to great content in the future!

Kongming’s Archives? Well, it was a great project for the two or so years we had it online, but you can only spend so much time interested in something, right? I mean, I’ve been a fan of Three Kingdoms since I read the book when I was around ten years. That’s a long time to spend on something specific. When I launched the site it seemed like I’d never get tired of it, but when I woke up this morning, for a reason I choose not to attempt detailing in words, I decided it was a time for change.
It was at this time the new Pokémon project was born. Unfortunately, I’m not a terribly wealthy fellow, and certainly a well-made Pokémon site is going to generate traffic beyond the 150,000 or so of you that enjoy Kongming’s Archives from a few minutes every week to suspiciously large amounts of hours on any given day. The young’uns, obviously, have a lot of time on their hands, so this has to be accounted for.
I won’t be able to continue hosting Kongming’s Archives for this reason. I’m going to need the money to launch the new Pokémon project, so for the time being the Pokémon project is going to remain here at kongming.net until I can somehow smuggle pokemon.org or net away from whoever has it (I’m sure persuasive measures, when taken, will bring them to understand the importance of what we are doing here—it shouldn’t take long).

I thought for a short time over what might be a good contribution to the Internet. Of course, I could have made a Final Fantasy site, but there are plenty of them, right? I’ve seen several in my Internet ventures, and while I might think I’ve got something to contribute to that game community (being quite a fan myself), most everything’s already been done.
Then I remembered the way in which my ex-girlfriend’s cousins children looked when they were watching Pokémon on the television. Their eyes glazed over, their minds completely lost in an imaginary world with small furry talking animals and suspiciously cheerful enemies. Bright and cheerful skies and relevant world-related themes such as friendship, adventure, and well… um… not bothering your mother and father. They definitely had that down, the kids weren’t interrupting their parents at all. Pokémon had somehow transformed into a pay-only-once babysitter. Anyone who has to deal with kids in even a business environment understands the merits of that, right?
And finally, the Internet. Any of you who frequent the former Kongming’s Archives understand beyond a doubt that I have strong opinions regarding this medium. I believe it should be free, a source of any information one might imagine, and I generally dislike advertising. Why would I have such strong opinions you might ask? Well, because I love the Internet (a suspiciously large amount, actually). Now, if I can make a marvelous Pokémon site, that increases the chance that more of our upcoming youth are going to become Internet junkies, sitting in front of their computers eight hours through the day, and if I’m lucky, they might actually decide to learn HTML and CSS, making their own sites about who knows what! So through Pokémon and Pikachu, I’m going to inspire a whole new word of education. I mean… psh… at Kongming’s Archives it was only about the Three Kingdoms history linked to through games by Koei. How important can the Three Kingdoms history be when compared to the powerful lulling force of Pokémon? Not much, I’ll imagine?

I’m glad you asked! Obviously, because it worked before of course, I’m going to start it off in much the same way I began Kongming’s Archives. First, I’ll create pages for each of the major Pokémon games, and from there link up FAQs and Walkthroughs along with related media: anything people might be interested in. Then I’ll eventually expand into the movies (all of them) and the television series. We’ll make a forum similar to The Scholars of Shen Zhou and perhaps even a Pokémon SimRTK (I’m not sure if those two things can continue to stay around though, maybe if I’m feeling particularly nice). I’ve already made a wallpaper as a special site-launch gift for you. Please enjoy!
The Pikachu biography (from this point on called by the name of ‘Pokéography’) below is just the first of many we are planning for the new Pikachu’s Archives project. Naturally, we start with Pikachu. Of course, the biography will be expanded in the future as more information is uncovered using whatever means we can, and many more will be added. We would like to welcome onboard for the new Pikachu’s Archives project as well. With the talent we still have there is no doubt we will make this a wonderful new addition to the community.

For the time being, while we are still setting everything up, you can still use the old email form (though who knows when I’ll take it down, I might just convert it into the new Pokémon site soon and leave it where it is). You can also click on the cute little Pikachu below this paragraph to send me an email using your favorite email client. I’m looking forward to feedback of all kinds, and especially to people interested in this project. Finally, if you are feeling an oddly grumpy sensation in your stomach, you can remind yourself of the way things once were. And remember people, it is important that we set days of the year aside from time to time to focus on something new and interesting, even if there are a lot of people out there that might not expect it. Good day!
