Bao Long

Biography

Sanguo Yanyi

Bao Long was one of two trusted officers under the governor of Guiyang, Zhao Fan; the other officer was Chen Ying. He was known to have the ability to draw a bow with enough force that he could shoot an arrow through two tigers.

When Zhao Yun marched on Guiyang with 3,000 troops, Zhao Fan called Bao Long and Chen Ying to counsel. Both officers favored engaging the enemy, so Zhao Fan sent Chen Ying with 3,000 troops to engage Zhao Yun. After Chen Ying was defeated, he was released and Zhao Fan surrendered.

When Zhao Yun leaves the city in anger, feeling insulted by Zhao Fan, Zhao Fan calls his two officers to counsel again. Bao Long suggests that him and Chen Ying pretend to be deserters with 500 other troops, and, when Zhao Fan and Zhao Yun engage, they can capture Zhao Yun. Zhao Yun is able to see through their plot, gets the two drunk, and ties them up. The 500 troops that came with the two officers are questioned, and they explain the plan. Zhao Yun then has Chen Ying and Bao Long beheaded, knowing their true intent.
