Biography
Chen Gong (1) hailed from Pingchun in Jiangxia. With his fellow villager Li Tong he raised troops in Langling and many joined them. At some time during the mid to late AD 180s they held a feud with Zhou Zhi, who had some 2000 families under his command. Both Li Tong and Chen Gong wished to kill him but Chen Gong found this too difficult to accomplish. Li Tong, knowing Chen Gong would not interfere, invited Zhou Zhi to a meeting and killed him killed him while he was drunk. To resolve the commotion caused by this Li Tong led Chen Gong and killed Zhou Zhi’s faction, combining his troops with their own.
Later Chen Gong was killed by his wife’s brother, Chen He, who also took possession of his troops. Li Tong defeated Chen He and cut off his head, placing it as a sacrifice on Chen Gong’s grave. (2)
