Biography

Sanguo Yanyi

Fan Cheng was a servant of the Han Dynasty. In AD 196, in the novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, when Cao Cao received Emperor Xian in Xuchang and made Xuchang the new capital of China, Fan Cheng was appointed a prefect of Luoyang along with Dong Zhao.

Fan Cheng is not mentioned in the novel after this point and we are currently investigating his historic background. It is worth noting, though, that Luo Guanzhong usually didn’t invent fictional characters for roles such as this, and as such he is likely an historic character.
