Biography
A farmer, he was a venerable man who used a staff when Guan Yu came to seek lodging while he waited for Sun Qian to check what reception Yuan Shao would give him. Guan Ding took Guan Yu into his house and put Guan Yu’s escort in the farm. Liu Bei and Zhang Fei came to collect Guan Yu, Guan Ding asked Liu Bei “I have been thinking of sending the younger in your train, General, would you take him?”
Liu Bei proposed that Guan Ping be adopted by Guan Yu, a suggestion that delighted Guan Ding and so Ping was adopted.
