Koei’s Kessen series is a set of storyline based military strategy games. They flow according to a story, unlike Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and you must fight and prepare for each battle as soon as the time comes. Kessen is based of Japanese history; Kessen II is based off the Three Kingdoms era.

Kessen Series

Kessen is a storyline-based romanticized strategy game based on either the Warring States period of Japanese history, or the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. It is a very colorful game, with an equally colorful cast of characters (in many cases providing a complete deviation from actual history). It has established a pretty solid fan-base.
